6 steps

How it works

Step 1

Box positioning

At the infeed of the VarioClip the box (or your product carrier) is centered to ensure its position. Optionally the weight of the box is checked in this step. Rejected boxes are ejected onto an error conveyor.

Step 2

Box lifting

The box is lifted towards the clipping unit. Here two vacuum cups pick up the bag on the short sides of the box.

Step 3

Bag spreading

The box is now moved downwards to release the bag from the box flaps. Two spreading tubes under vacuum are placed in the bag. The spreading tubes take over the bag from the vacuum cups and spread it, preventing dust coming out of the bag.

Step 4

Bag clipping

Now the bag is clipped by a plastic coated metal twist tie. Our knowledge of twist torque, materials and clips ensure a perfect clipped bag.

Step 5

Bag protruding

The bag is pushed down to prevent it getting stuck into the box top tape

Step 6

Optionally: box closing

Optionally the box is closed by the integrated taper. The result: your product safely packed in a closed bag and closed box! Ready to be transported to your customers.

FAQ

What does the VarioClip do?

The VarioClip automatically closes bags inside boxes or crates using a clip. Before clipping, excess air is removed from the bag to create a neat and secure closure. The result is a consistently clipped bag that is easy to open, easy to reclose and ready for further handling or transport.

The VarioClip can operate as a stand-alone machine or as part of a fully automated packaging line.

Why use bag clipping instead of bag sealing?

Bag clipping is often preferred when heat sealing is not desirable or possible. This is especially common in powder applications, where customers may prefer to avoid heat-based processes.

Clipped bags are also easy to open and reclose, making them practical for products that may need to be sampled, inspected or partially used before being closed again.

Why use bag clipping instead of bag folding?

Bag folding creates a neat closure, but the bag is not physically closed. When additional product protection is required, clipping provides a more secure closure while still allowing the bag to be opened and reclosed easily.

The best solution depends on the product, packaging requirements and desired level of protection.

Which products are suitable for the VarioClip?

The VarioClip is designed for products that require protection against moisture, dust, dirt or dehydration.

Typical applications include:

  • Powders
  • Food ingredients
  • Industrial powders
  • Pet food ingredients
  • Other bulk products packed in liners inside boxes or crates

The VarioClip is particularly suitable for powder applications where heat sealing is not preferred and a reclosable packaging solution is required.

When should I choose a VarioClip instead of a VarioSeal?

The VarioSeal creates a permanent heat seal and is often used when a hermetic closure is required.

The VarioClip is commonly selected when:

  • Heat sealing is not preferred
  • The bag needs to be opened easily
  • The bag may need to be reclosed
  • Clipping is preferred by the customer or production process

This makes the VarioClip particularly popular in powder applications.

What box and crate sizes can the VarioClip handle?

The VarioClip processes a wide range of box and crate dimensions.

Typical size range:

  • Length: 300–620 mm
  • Width: 200–450 mm
  • Height: 60–350 mm
  • C-height: 200–500 mm or 200–650 mm, depending on machine execution

The machine is designed to handle multiple box formats while delivering a consistent clipping result.

Can the VarioClip process different box sizes automatically?

Yes. The VarioClip features fully motorised adjustments. Settings are stored in the HMI, which means manual format adjustments are not required.

This allows operators to switch between different box sizes quickly and reliably and enables manufacturers to process multiple packaging formats on a single machine.

How many boxes or crates can the VarioClip process per minute?

The VarioClip typically processes 4 to 6 boxes or crates per minute, depending on box dimensions, bag specifications and the application.

A capacity of 6 boxes per minute can be achieved under ideal operating conditions.

How does the VarioClip remove excess air from the bag?

Before the bag is clipped, a suction probe removes excess air from the liner.

This prevents the bag from ballooning and helps ensure that the box can be closed correctly after clipping. It also contributes to a cleaner and more consistent packaging result.

How do you operate the VarioClip?

The VarioClip is operated through a touchscreen HMI. Operators can access machine settings, stored recipes, clipping parameters, status information and fault diagnostics from a single interface.

Visual fault guidance helps operators quickly identify and resolve issues.

Is checkweighing available?

Yes. The VarioClip can be equipped with an integrated checkweigher and reject system.

Before clipping, the box is weighed. If the measured weight does not match the stored weight, the package can automatically be rejected for inspection and correction.

What happens to boxes that do not meet the required quality standards?

The VarioClip can be equipped with a reject module that automatically removes faulty packages from the production flow.

This supports continuous production and prevents packaging errors from continuing downstream.

Can the VarioClip be integrated into an existing packaging line?

Yes. The VarioClip can operate stand-alone or be integrated into fully automated production lines.

Conveyors before and after the machine can also be supplied and controlled through the VarioClip, making integration into existing layouts straightforward.

What options are available for remote support, DAMORE and data analysis?

Every VarioClip is supplied with an IXON router as standard, allowing Niverplast technicians to provide remote support, software updates and troubleshooting assistance whenever needed.

For companies looking for additional production insights, the VarioClip can be connected to DAMORE (Data Monitoring & Remote Engineering). Through an online dashboard, users gain access to live machine performance data, OEE information and historical production data. This helps identify downtime, analyse performance trends and improve overall packaging efficiency.

How much floor space does the VarioClip require?

The VarioClip is designed with a very compact footprint, allowing it to fit into existing packaging lines with minimal layout changes.

Typical dimensions are:

  • Without integrated box closer: 3,300 × 1,320 mm
  • With integrated box closer: 4,710 × 1,320 mm

This compact design makes integration straightforward, even where floor space is limited.

Why choose the VarioClip?

The VarioClip provides a reliable, automated and flexible bag closing solution for applications where clipping offers advantages over sealing or folding.

Key benefits include:

  • Easy-to-open and reclosable bags
  • Suitable for powder applications
  • No heat required for bag closing
  • Consistent packaging quality
  • Automatic format adjustments
  • Integrated quality control options
  • Remote support and DAMORE connectivity
  • Low Total Cost of Ownership
  • Compact footprint

For manufacturers looking for a safe, flexible and reliable way to close bags inside boxes or crates, the VarioClip offers a future-proof packaging solution.
